The story of flight tracking

Few people realize that the $6 trillion aviation industry relies heavily on data collected by a dedicated community of unpaid volunteers around the world.

These volunteers use special hardware to track signals transmitted by aircraft, providing crucial information that supports global aviation operations. Yet contributors receive no reward.

This ineffective model has led to inconsistent quality and spoofed data, with declining participation and limited control over where coverage expands.

July 2023

Wingbits takes off

Our founders met at the Antler accelerator program in the fall of 2023, united by a shared vision to create a fairer, more innovative and efficient flight tracking solution. Months later, Wingbits was born and headquartered in Stockholm.

November 2023

40 Antennas

Public beta launched

The network begins onboarding its first users to the network using "Build Your Own Device" hardware, with growth coming mostly organically.

June 2024

$3.5 million raised

The team successfully raises a seed round of funding from multiple investors to scale the network and vision.

October 2024

2000+ antennas

Milestone: fastest growing network

2000+ stations have joined the network, making Wingbits the fastest growing flight tracking network in history, 6x more than its competitors.

May 2024

First rewards generated on testnet

Participating users begin to receive testnet tokens, beginning the first incentivise flight tracking network.

The team successfully raises a second round of funding led by Borderless Capital and Bullish Capital, bringing total funding to $5.6 million to accelerate network growth.

Satellite launched via SpaceX

In partnership with our customer Spire Global, we co-launched the industry's first validator satellite, providing an extra layer of security, verifiability and coverage.

Korean Air Partnership

Our first major airline partnership with Korean Air, supporting their R&D Center to advance airspace integration research for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), as well as urban air mobility technologies and unmanned aircraft.
